CERTIFIED KINESIOLOGIST

Growing up, I always knew I wanted to do something related to the medical and rehabilitation world. I bounced between wanting to be a doctor, paramedic, physiotherapist and many more, but I was always drawn to working in a field that would ultimately help people! I grew up in a very small town and I was a super active kid who played most sports and activities available to me. Throughout my teen years I competed pretty seriously in Judo, and I experienced my fair-share of injuries, which I pushed under the rug for many, many years. Being in such a small community, I didn’t find I had access to the type of support that I needed to rehabilitate my injuries which really pushed me to go into this field so I could better learn what was lacking.

I completed my bachelors of science in Kinesiology from the University of Lethbridge which allowed me to work both in private physiotherapy practices and the varsity athletic clinic, as well as with the varsity hockey team while in school. These opportunities showed me how diverse the field of Kinesiology can be, and the range of support you can provide. This has led me here working with a large variety of people whether you are looking for support in your rehabilitation journey, support with certain conditions, or if you are simply interested in increasing your activity and exercise.

Sydney’s Philosophy

I am a big believer that activity should be fun and something that everyone wants to participate in! Being active shouldn’t feel like a chore and I work really hard to connect with my clients to help them find activities that they enjoy, including as they rehabilitate injuries or work towards returning to their previous activity levels. I want to support and motivate them to be more active because they actually are enjoying it, and I think that there aren’t many injuries or conditions that cannot be improved by an increase in exercise and activity.

Fun facts about Sydney

What’s your favorite book?

Can anyone actually answer this with only one? Mine definitely changes pretty often, but I always find myself ready to re-read The Martian by Andy Weir or Deep by James Nestor (a great read if you want to learn more about free diving).

What’s your favourite movie?

I watch all kinds of movies from adventure documentaries, to romantic comedies, to action movies (never horror), but one of my all time favorites is Captain Fantastic.

What’s your favourite sport?

I grew up playing all kinds of sports, but my favorite was always Judo.

What’s your favourite activity?

I love climbing, I mostly boulder but love any type of rock climbing and even want to explore more outdoor climbing. The flexibility of doing this indoors or outdoors makes it the perfect year round activity that is an awesome social environment and works on a lot of body awareness, coordination and strength! I also love cycling in the summer and downhill skiing in the winter!

What’s your favourite food?

I am always down to try new foods, and I cook a lot at home, but when given the chance, I am always happy to get Tacos/Burritos, or Vietnamese Subs (Bahn Mi).

What’s your favourite band?

The Current Swell, a band from Vancouver Island has been my favorite band for quite some time. I listen to a wide variety of music though, and some other top artists are: Shakey Graves, Zach Bryan, and Florence and the Machines.

What are some of your hobbies?

I love to travel and spend time outdoors! Especially in the summer, I am often camping, hiking, surfing, climbing … you name it! I have spent close to the last 10 years working outdoors during the summer, so I often head to the forest most chances I get. Other than that, I am learning to crochet, I make a lot of bread, and I am going to learn to garden this year!

What are your favourite Edmonton spots?

I am pretty new to the city, so if you have any recommendations I will take them all. So far, Parlour Italian Kitchen and Bar, Campio, and Three Amigos are my most frequented.
